Johor Immigration nabs 75 foreigners working illegally around JB


JOHOR BARU: The Johor Immigration Department has detained some 75 foreigners for working illegally during two separate operations here.

State Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said that in the first operation, the department detained seven illegal immigrants during a joint operation with the police and Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) around the Iskandar Puteri area on Tuesday (Nov 5) at around 5.30pm.

“Actions were taken following information and public complaints about presence of foreigners either working or carrying out businesses without licences or permits.

“In the operation, a total of 10 premises were raided and 76 foreigners and locals were inspected,” he said here on Wednesday (Nov 6).

Mohd Rusdi added that following inspections, the department detained five male Myanmar nationals together with one Indonesian man and one Indonesian women, all aged from 21 to 45 years old.

In the second operation, he said a team of Immigration enforcement personnel raided 28 premises around Pasir Gudang and Taman Desa Cemerlang here on Sunday (Nov 3) and Monday (Nov 4) between 12am and 1.30pm.

“The raid at these premises led us to inspect 133 foreign workers and locals. We detained 17 Myanmar nationals including seven women, 45 Indonesians including 26 women, three men from Bangladesh, two male Indian nationals and a Nepalese man, all aged between 18 and 58 years old,” he added.

Mohd Rusdi added that during the two operations, the department also handed out 16 notices to their local employers to assist with the investigations while all of those detained were currently placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration depot for further action.

He said that checks on the illegal immigrants found they have committed various immigration offences.

Mohd Rusdi also said that the department would continue carrying out more operations in the future especially at known hotspots.

“We will also take action against their employers, premises owners and individuals found hiring foreign immigrants without any documents,”he added.
