Elderly man dies in early morning accident near Putatan


KOTA KINABALU: An elderly man died after losing control of his motorcycle and was thrown 16 meters on the Penampang-Papar road early Thursday (Nov 7).

Penampang district police chief Supt Sammy Newton said the 75-year-old man was on his way to Papar from the city here when he is believed to have lost control of the vehicle at KM34 of the Penampang-Papar road near Putatan, at about 4.30am

"The victim was confirmed dead at the scene by a medical team," he said in a statement on Thursday.

He said that the victim's body was sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital I for a post-mortem examination.

He said investigations were carried out under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He urged the public, with any information about the accident to go to the nearest police station or to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Saparia Ladoni, at 019-809 5133.

He urged the public to avoid sharing images or video clips related to the accident on social media to protect the sensitivity of the family members involved.
