PUTRAJAYA: The education of children previously under Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings’ (GISB) care is still ongoing, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
“We started their session on Oct 1 with psychosocial classes for the first 2 weeks to assess their psychosocial needs. Now, they have all started school classes as usual, following our curriculum with guidance from our teachers.
“So far, everyone has followed mainstream education with the help of teachers that we have already assigned to these children’s locations,” she told reporters after the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) convocation ceremony on Thursday (Nov 7).
On Sept 23, Fadhlina said that the Education Ministry would take over the education of more than 300 children previously under GISB care starting Oct 1.
She said that the children would be given formal education based on a special module that has been implemented before.
Meanwhile, the Education Minister said more than 6,000 teacher graduates received their postings much earlier, on Sept 30, ahead of their convocation ceremony.
“They have found placements and carried out their duties as teachers,” she said.
When asked if teachers would be placed in Sabah, Sarawak, or across the country, she said that teachers are needed everywhere and would be distributed fairly.
“These IPG teachers will be placed in primary schools and secondary schools,” she said.
During her speech, Fadhlina said: "To all graduates, we would not be disappointed if you forget some parts of the curriculum content. However, we would be deeply disappointed if you left IPG without becoming a better human being and an improved individual.”
The five-day 14th Education Ministry IPG Convocation Ceremony, which started on Nov 3, involves 6,382 graduates who completed their studies and teacher training at 28 campus IPGs and English Language Teaching Centres.
