Housewife fights for life after being hit by driver avoiding crossing cat

MELAKA: A 37-year-old housewife is fighting for her life at Melaka Hospital after being rammed just outside of her house entrance by a female driver of a car who was trying to avoid a crossing cat.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit identified the victim as Yeo May Fong who had sustained serious head, leg and hip injuries while standing outside of her home at Taman Sutera Wangi in Batu Berendam here in the 11.41pm incident on Wednesday (Nov 6).

He said the 29-year-old driver of the car claimed in her police report that she was trying to avoid hitting a cat crossing the street at the housing area when she lost control of her car before ramming into the victim and another parked car.

"The driver who works as a supervisor also lived at the same housing estate while the 37-year-old owner of the other car also lodged a police report as his vehicle was also damaged in the incident," he said on Thursday (Nov 7).

ACP Christopher said the incident is currently being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving “without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for another person using the road”.

The victim was reported to have undergone major surgery on Wednesday night and currently is still in the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital.
