Selangor prepares special grant of RM5,000 to help unregistered nursery operators

SHAH ALAM, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government will introduce a special grant for unregistered nursery operators in the state to register services and operations online starting in December.

State women's development and social welfare exco Anfaal Saari said that nursery operators would receive a maximum of RM5,000 from the total allocation of RM400,000 provided through the special grant.

"As of last July, the inspection committee for unregistered nurseries under the Selangor Social Welfare Department (JKM) revealed that 128 unregistered nurseries were operating in Selangor.

"The number has decreased compared to 407 last year and 600 nurseries in 2022 as a result of the legitimisation (registration) programme carried out,” she said at the closing ceremony of the Selangor 2024 State Nursery Service Advocacy Programme here on Thursday (Nov 7)

Earlier, in her speech at the ceremony, Anfaal said registered daycare operators would obtain many benefits, including tax exemptions and special government incentives.

"Similarly, if corporate companies are interested in creating a corporate social responsibility programme (in collaboration with a childcare centre), registered nurseries will definitely be their choice,” she said.

Anfaal said that so far, about 3,000 nurseries are registered with JKM across the country, 1,004 of them in Selangor.

She said out of that number, five areas in the state recorded the highest number of nurseries, namely Petaling, Hulu Langat, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam and Gombak. – Bernama
