A MAN in Henan, China, was hailed as a hero after he rescued his wife from a fire but later died from his injuries, Sin Chew Daily reported.
The incident happened on Oct 10 in Luoyang city when a man named Liu and his wife were preparing breakfast in their kitchen.
There was a sudden explosion in the kitchen and the entire place was soon ablaze.
CCTV footage showed a middle-aged man emerging from the burning building and when he realised that his wife had not managed to make it out, he rushed in again to save her.
He was seen grabbing his wife and making it out together.
The couple was rushed to hospital for treatment but Liu died from his injuries a week later.
“I have not had the courage to tell her that my father is dead. She told me to visit my father (in a different ward). I would just walk out and sit for a while before coming back and tell her that he is fine,” their son said.
Many netizens hailed Liu as a hero and praised him for his feat.
“Uncle is a real man. Strong! He managed to save his wife with all the strength he could muster despite suffering 92% burns.”
> A group of teenagers was caught terrorising a neighbourhood in Kulai, Johor, by making loud noises in the middle of the night from upending rubbish bins, Sin Chew Daily reported.
CCTV footage showed the group of teenage boys, who had their faces covered, attacking rubbish bins in an alleyway behind a row of houses at Bandar Putra Kulai, causing them to fall onto the ground with a loud crash before running away.
A resident told the daily that this was the third time they were startled awake by such a ruckus.
“All of us are resigned to the fact that we have to clean up the mess ourselves,” he said.
