MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan blasted certain MPs who apparently snickered when the Prime Minister quoted a Thirukkural during his Budget 2025 speech, Malaysia Nanban reported.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had quoted the 730th couplet from the ancient Tamil work by Thiruvalluvar, which reads: “Urupasiyum ovaap piniyum serupagayum saeraa thiyalvadhu naadu.”This kural teaches that a superior nation is one that is free of hunger, diseases and strife and hate, Saravanan, who is Tapah MP, told the Dewan Rakyat.
The Thirukkural is a work that is celebrated worldwide by different cultures for its meaningful lessons conveyed in just two lines.
Saravanan described the MPs behaviour as unbecoming and hurtful to the Indian community.
He thanked Anwar for including relevant kural in his speeches.
