City Hall raids businesses using public spaces to display goods

PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur City Hall has conducted a special operation on business operators that use public areas to store and display goods, including those operating in unhygienic conditions.

City Hall's Enforcement Division and the Health and Environment Division led the operation which focused on businesses at Pasar Borong Kuala Lumpur and Pusat Bandar Utara Kuala Lumpur.

In a statement posted on Facebook on Friday (Nov 8), City Hall confirmed that it had confiscated goods from at least 12 businesses during the raid in the areas concerned.

Meanwhile, all goods were taken to City Hall's Seizure Depot in Taman Miharja, Cheras, for documentation and record-keeping.

The items seized were vegetables, fruits, seafood and poultry and immediate closures were imposed on food premises that failed to adhere to hygiene standards set by the council.

Action was taken under the Street, Drainage, and Building Act 1974 and the Food Establishment.

The council said that it would continue monitoring key areas and taking action if necessary.

To enable swift action by the Enforcement Division, City Hall has urged the public to report violations to the council’s complaint channel by providing relevant information.
