KOTA KINABALU: It has been a busy week for Civil Defence Force personnel in the Beaufort district with reports of snakes slithering into residential areas and government buildings with a total of four captured since Monday (Nov 4).
In the first incident, a four-metre long python weighing about 4kg was reported at a resident's house in Kg Melati on Monday.
A Civil Defence Force team was deployed and the captured reptile was handed over to wildlife officials for further action.
On Wednesday (Nov 6), canteen workers from the Beaufort district office were surprised when they spotted a snake inside a drain.
At first, they thought it was a bright-coloured item such as a ribbon but then realised it was a snake.
Authorities who were called in found a yellow-ringed snake measuring one metre in length and weighed about 300g. It was removed from the drain and taken elsewhere.
On the same day in Kg Lawa, another snake was found in the kitchen of a house.
The 800cm-long snake weighing about 150g was taking shelter under a fridge.
In the latest case on Friday (Nov 8), a homeowner at Kg Pilajau had heard his chickens making some noise from the coop.
Upon inspection, he found a large snake coiled inside.
Civil defence Force officials used a special tool to snare the 5m-long snake to remove it from the coop.
The 28kg reptile appeared very content and is believed to have devoured at least one hen before its capture, officials said.
