M'sian Youth Council condemns Israeli attack that left Malbatt personnel injured

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) has strongly condemned the attack by Israeli forces that injured six Malaysian Battalion (Malbatt) personnel in Sidon, south Lebanon.

"We urge the Malaysian government and United Nations (UN) to act decisively against Israel which continues to attack UN peacekeeping positions in Lebanon," MBM president Mohd Izzat Afifi Abdul Hamid said in a statement on Friday (Nov 7).

"MBM fully supports the Prime Minister's proposal to submit a motion to remove Israel as a member of the UN.

"The war crimes committed by Israel in the Middle East have exceeded the limits of humanity by violating many peace protocols and global justice.

"MBM stands firm with the Prime Minister in taking all policies on issues involving terrorist conflicts, especially involving Israel's brutality towards the people of Lebanon and Palestine," he said.

Izzat Afifi also called on Malaysians to unite in the struggle against Israeli tyranny and pray for the safety of Malaysians involved in peacekeeping missions in the Middle East.

It was reported on Thursday (Nov 7) that the Malbatt personnel – five from the newly-arrived 850-12 team and one from 850-11, which is rotating out – were on a bus that was damaged in an Israeli strike that targeted a civilian vehicle.

The Malbatt personnel suffered minor injuries, one of them sustaining a suspected closed fracture of the left arm.

The Malaysian Armed Forces confirmed that the incident occurred when the Malbatt team was en route to Marakah Camp from Beirut at 7.45pm Malaysian time (1.54pm Lebanese time) on Thursday.
