Malaysia formally invites China to 2025 Asean-GCC summit

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has formally extended an invitation to China to attend the Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council (Asean-GCC) Summit in 2025, says Fahmi Fadzil.

The Communications Minister said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced this during the Cabinet meeting on Friday (Nov 8).

"The Prime Minister provided an update on his recent visit to China, where he held discussions with China's President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang.

"Various issues were discussed and an official invitation to the Asean-GCC Summit has been extended to China," he said during a post-Cabinet press conference here.

Fahmi said this underscores Malaysia's sovereignty and commitment to trading with any nation that wishes to engage with it.

"This positive relationship will undoubtedly have beneficial spillover effects for our Asean partners as well," he said.

He also said Anwar informed the Cabinet that he would depart for an official visit to Cairo to meet Egyptian President El-Sisi on Saturday (Nov 9).

Fahmi added on Nov 11, Anwar would travel to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to attend an emergency Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Arab states summit on the Palestinian issue.
