Myanmar man killed in Muar house fire

MUAR: A Myanmar national died in a house fire on Jalan Padang in Bukit Bakri here on Thursday (Nov 7) night.

Muar fire station operations commander Baharuddin Ab Rahman said they received a distress call at 8.28pm.

A team of 17 firemen from the Muar and Pagoh stations was deployed to the location.

“At the scene... we found a house on fire. We immediately began operations to bring it under control.

“However, it is unfortunate that a male victim was later found dead inside the house,” he said here on Friday (Nov 8).

Baharuddin said they believed the victim, identified as Hein Htet, 26, could not escape as the fire spread too quickly.

He said the fire was brought under control at 8.50pm, by which time the house was about 90% damaged.

The victim’s body was sent to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital here for a post-mortem, he added.
