Post-mortem on our Olympics performance next week

A POST-MORTEM session to evaluate the performance of the Malaysian contingent at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be held on Nov 14, announces Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.

The session, organised by the National Sports Council (NSC), will bring together key stakeholders, including national coaches, representatives from national sports associations, the Olympic Council of Malaysia and the National Sports Institute, she said.

“The insights from this meeting will then be used to develop a strategy for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

“The NSC will also look at developing talents in other sports such as skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing ahead of the 2028 Olympics, which have been deemed to be other potential medal-earning sports for us in the future,” she told the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

Yeoh further emphasised that existing medal-winning sports in Malaysia would continue to receive the attention they needed to develop.

She made these remarks while responding to a question from Ramkarpal Singh (PH-Bukit Gelugor), who had asked about the government’s plans to further develop and improve the national contingent of athletes ahead of the next Olympic Games.

In addition, Yeoh also revealed that the ministry’s Road to Gold (RTG) programme, aimed at helping athletes prepare and train for Olympic gold, had spent RM13.2mil for this year’s games.

“RTG’s financial accounts are currently being audited, and I will provide the public with the full details once the audit is completed,” she added.
