Suspect in fatal stabbing of father and daughter remanded seven days


GEORGE TOWN: The suspect in the fatal stabbing of a father and daughter here has been remanded for seven days.

The 32-year-old will be remanded until Thursday (Nov 14) at the Penang Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for what police believe are self-inflicted injuries.

Police said in a statement on Friday (Nov 8) that the suspect is in stable condition.

It was reported that the man was rushed to the hospital after he was found with multiple stab wounds and cuts on his body on the ground floor of an apartment building in Bandar Baru Air Itam here on Thursday (Nov 7).

Two people were found dead at the scene.

They were identified as Siti Zulaila Zulkifli, 30, and her father Zulkifli Ibrahim, 62, both found with multiple stab wounds at around 1.15pm.

Siti Zulaila worked at a hardware store while her father was a driver.

Penang police chief Comm Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

"We have arrested the suspect and seized the murder weapon.

"The case is considered solved and we are now (determining) the motive," he said.
