IPOH: A 38-year-old Vietnamese woman has been arrested to assist in the investigation of a fire involving three houses and four vehicles in Taman Singa, Sitiawan.

Manjung OCPD assistant commissioner Hasbullah Abd Rahman said police initially received a call from a 42-year-old house owner at Taman Singa in Sitiawan at around 2.50am on Friday (Nov 8), who said that his house and three vehicles were on fire.

ACP Hasbullah said the fire started in the complainant’s garage and spread quickly to two other houses nearby. The Fire and Rescue department managed to control it within 30 minutes.

“About 90% of the caller’s house, along with his two cars and a motorcycle, were razed in the fire.

“The other two houses were damaged between 20% and 40%, and a motorcycle caught fire as well.

“However, no one was injured,” he said.

ACP Hasbullah said CCTV recording showed a man carrying two barrels believed to contain flammable liquid towards the complainant’s house, and the suspect was seen running away after the fire started.

“We are still investigating the motive of the fire and the relationship between the complainant and the woman.

“The case is being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code,” he said.

He added that anyone with information about the case should contact the investigation officer, Inspector Nur Munawara Ahmad, at 0111- 624 0391 or call the operation centre at 05-688 6222.
