KUALA LUMPUR: The groundwork for a major educational partnership was sealed on Saturday (Nov 9) as Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong witnessed the signing of agreements between Malaysian and Chinese institutions.
The Ayer Hitam MP said the collaboration involves two MCA-linked universities and two vocational colleges from Fujian Province, China.
"The foundation we laid has finally come to fruition," Dr Wee said in his Facebook post on Saturday (Nov 9).
He was referring to the agreements between Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) and Quanzhou Light Industry Vocational College, as well as Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) and Fujian Water Conservancy and Electric Power Vocational and Technical College.
Dr Wee said the partnership was initiated during his visit to China earlier this year, where he led an MCA delegation to meet with Zhou Zuyi, Secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee.
"Secretary Zhou expressed strong support for fostering collaboration between Fujian’s educational institutions and MCA-founded institutions," he said, adding that the ceremony symbolises the realisation of those discussions.
According to Dr Wee, Lin Wenbin, Standing Committee Member of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, also attended, underscoring the Fujian government’s commitment to the partnership.
Dr Wee said the agreements aim to boost cooperation in developing teaching models, curricula, and facilities for technical and vocational education, alongside exploring high-level academic exchanges between Malaysian and Chinese institutions.
