Ex-cop reunites with ‘boy’ he saved 19 years ago

A 67-YEAR-OLD retired policeman, Umar Kamaruddin, finally had a reunion with the young man he saved 19 years ago.

“I feel so moved seeing the boy I saved long time ago is an adult now,” Umar said of his 30-minute meeting with Desmond Kwek Bo Yang.

The rescue took place back in 2005 when Umar saved Kwek, who was drowning in a swimming pool.

According to Harian Metro, their brief yet meaningful reunion occurred on Sunday at a restaurant, and Umar expressed his gratitude for the chance to reconnect despite their busy schedules.

“I could see how happy he was. He told me of his studies and work in Japan,” said Umar, offering his best wishes for Kwek’s success.

Kwek, now 26, works as a gaffer in Tokyo after studying film and drama in Osaka.

He thanked his rescuer and expressed his desire to stay in touch, even asking for Umar’s address so he could send a gift from Japan.

“I hope we can meet again for a longer time when he returns to Malaysia,” said Umar.

> Affected by the pressure over questions about conceiving, actress Janna Nick admitted that she has gone through more difficult phases in her life than dealing with inquiries about starting a family.

Janna, whose real name is Nurul Jannah Muner, 29, shared that she had once cried in secret, without her husband Dini Schatzmann knowing, just because of her period.

“Thank you all for your prayers and kind words, I’m okay. Crying is normal for those who are trying to conceive.

“It’s also a cycle of sadness that has to be faced every month, and honestly, I’ve gone through worse breakdowns before.

“I cried quietly in the bathroom when I found out my period had come because I didn’t want my husband to feel sad too.

“This is all part of the journey for those trying to have a baby,” she wrote in an Instagram post, reported Kosmo! Online.

Additionally, the host of the reality show Famili Duo said that she only wanted to share her experience of trying to have a child with her followers, while still hoping to be blessed with a child.

Previously, Janna had tearfully asked people to stop asking about her attempts to conceive, revealing that she had undergone in-vitro fertilisation treatment without success.

Janna and Dini got married in June 2023.
