KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) chief has warned that motorcyclists riding with an expired road tax and insurance will have their machines confiscated.
JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said of the 28,811 notices issued by the department in the first eight days of Op Khas Motosikal, licence and road tax violations formed the bulk of offences, Bernama reported.
He said 59,116 motorcycles had been inspected so far, with 8,988 riders found committing various offences.
A total of 282 motorcycles were impounded.
“A total of 23,895 summonses were issued for licence and road tax violations. The excuses included not having time to renew or collect the licence.
“I advise all road users, especially motorcyclists, to renew their road tax and insurance.
“If anything untoward happens, it will cause hardship not only to the riders but also other road users.
“We will confiscate motorcycles that do not have insurance and road tax on the road, and also those with extreme modifications,” he told reporters after closing the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory-level MyLesen 2024 Programme in Setiawangsa here yesterday.
A total of 1,824 participants received the B40 MyLicence comprising a Malaysian Driving License (LMM) Class B2 (1,790), Vocational Public Service Vehicle (PSV) E-Hailing Licence (14) and PSV Bus (20).
