Vandalised cars, stolen batteries in Lahad Datu


Morning shock: Eleven cars found with shattered windows and missing batteries in Jalan Tengah Nipah, Lahad Datu.

KOTA KINABALU: Car owners in Jalan Tengah Nipah, Lahad Datu, woke up to a rude shock as their vehicles’ windows had been shattered and the batteries stolen.

The incident in Kampung Desa Bajau yesterday morning, which quickly went viral on social media, initially reported that at least 20 cars were targeted.

A police check later found that 11 vehicles had been targeted, with nine reports lodged at 6am yesterday, said Lahad Datu district police chief Asst Comm Dzulbaharin Ismail.

“The cars were parked in an open area in the village. It is believed that the crime took place between 5pm on Thursday and the early hours of Friday,” he said.

ACP Dzulbaharin urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the nearest police station or reach out to Lahad Datu Criminal Investigation Department assistant investigation officer Sjn Martin Motuin at 016-839 2694.
