Kelantan set to drum up the fun to woo tourists

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan International Drum Festival 2024, featuring over 250 participants, including those from Indonesia and Thailand, will be made an annual event in an effort to attract tourists to the state.

Kelantan Tourism Culture, Arts and Heritage Committee chairman Datuk Kamarudin Md Nor said the inaugural programme showcases various traditional percussion instruments from Kelantan’s ethnic communities.

He said the drum symphony performance featured 12 different types of percussion instruments, each highlighting their unique characteristics.

“With drum presentations from all communities, including Malay, Chinese, Indian and Thai, this festival will create a cultural tapestry that can foster unity among Kelantan’s multiethnic community while also attracting visitors to the state,” Kamarudin told Bernama at the festival’s opening ceremony here.

Kamarudin said the drum festival, also known as the Palu Fest, coincides with Visit Kelantan 2024.

He added that Kelantan is rich in unique arts, including dances and performances such as gendang silat, dikir barat, rebana ubi, kertok and wayang kulit, among others.
