MetMalaysia: Thunderstorms, heavy rain predicted for parts of country until 6pm today


PETALING JAYA: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds have been forecast for parts of Malaysia, including Selangor, Johor and Kuala Lumpur.

In an advisory issued by the Meteorological Department at 3.35pm on Sunday (Nov 10), thunderstorms are expected over the entire state of Johor, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Terengganu and Perlis.

Other affected areas are Selangor (Gombak, Petaling and Hulu Langat), Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Pendang, Sik, Baling and Kulim), Perak (Larut, Matang and Selama and Hulu Perak) and Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Kuantan and Rompin).

Also seeing rains are Sarawak - Kuching (Bau and Kuching), Serian (Tebedu), Sri Aman, Kapit (Song, Kapit and Belaga), Bintulu (Tatau), Miri (Telang Usan) and Limbang -, and Sabah - West Coast (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran).

The advisory is until 6pm.

According to an advisory issued by MetMalaysia on Nov 8, based on weather model analyses, an accumulation of eastern winds is expected to occur along the east coast and northern Peninsular Malaysia until Sunday (Nov 10).

"This condition has the potential to produce thunderstorms along with heavy rain and strong winds over an extended period in these areas," it said on its website.

The Northeast Monsoon began on Tuesday.
