KOTA KINABALU: Several thousand households in several districts on Sabah’s east coast have been hit by a five-hour power outage.

Sabah Electricity said in a statement that the disruption started at noon yesterday, affecting areas in Sandakan, Kinabatangan, Beluran, Semporna, Lahad Datu, Kunak and Tawau.

Among buildings and infrastructure affected by the power disruption were the Tawau Airport, business premises, government offices and residential areas.

The power company was able to restore supply in phases to areas such as Sandakan, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Kunak from 4pm onwards.

Full restoration to all affected east coast areas was achieved by 5.25pm, according to Sabah Electricity chairman Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau.

He said the supply disruption occurred at the Kolopis-Segaliud 275kV transmission line in Ranau, adding that Sabah Electricity technical teams are investigating the source of the outage.
