Spirited turnout at Sungai Buloh Deepavali open house

SUNGAI BULOH: Nearly 3,000 visitors attended the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency's Deepavali Open House, organised in collaboration with Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM), reflecting the spirit of unity within the multicultural community.

People began gathering at the grounds of the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency service centre as early as 10am, indicating a warm reception for this year's annual event.

For 69-year-old K. Marimuthu from Rawang, who attended with his wife and friends, the event offered a meaningful opportunity to gather and enjoy special dishes.

"Every year I come because the food is delicious, and this is a chance to meet friends and relatives whom I haven’t seen for a long time," he said, smiling, when met by Bernama.

As for Anita Helmi, 41, a resident of Sungai Buloh who attended with her husband and child, this was her first time joining an Indian community open house, and she was excited about the variety of dishes such as thosai, naan and biryani rice.

Sungai Buloh MP Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, who is also Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister, said that over 2,500 visitors from within and outside Sungai Buloh attended the event.

"This is the Madani spirit we embrace—unity and cooperation among various communities. What makes it even more special is that today’s dishes were prepared by local vendors, allowing people to enjoy their culinary creations," he said.

The event was also attended by the ministry's deputy secretary-general Datuk Zamri Salleh and AIM managing director Datuk Mohamed Shamir Abdul Aziz. – Bernama
