Still too early to talk about next general election, says Loke on cooperation with BN

SHAH ALAM: It is still too early to talk about the next general election, says Anthony Loke when asked if DAP would still want to collaborate with Barisan Nasional (BN) then.

The DAP secretary-general said the party’s current focus was to strengthen ties within the unity government to ensure the nation’s economic stability so that more foreign investors can be lured in.

“If we are able to build a strong economy and administrate the country well in the next three years, of course, we would hope for this cooperation to continue after the polls," Loke told reporters after launching the 2024 Selangor DAP convention here on Sunday (Nov 10).

He added the ties between the DAP and BN at the federal level were strong.

“I believe we have achieved strong political stability and now it is important to see how this political stability can be used to build economic strength,’’ he added.

On another matter, Loke said he did not think that the bickering between DAP vice-president Teresa Kok and Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh would adversely affect cooperation in the unity government.

He added this was because the quarrel between both of them was a disagreement between two individuals which did not involve the government.

Kok and Dr Akmal had been at each other’s throats for months with the former even filing a defamation suit against the latter sometime in October.

Their quarrel started over Dr Akmal’s remarks allegedly targeted at Kok due to a disagreement between them over the country’s halal certification procedures.

According to Loke, it was common for disagreements to arise between individuals in any political coalitions, cooperation and even the government.
