Almost 11,000 drug cases investigated by Pahang cops this year


KUANTAN: The Pahang Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department has opened 10,813 investigation papers and made 11,980 arrests from January to October 2024.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said 11 syndicates related were busted under Ops Indera with 18 arrests.

"Under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, a total of 638 charges have been made, an increase of 123 compared to the same period in 2023.

"Total drug seizures was RM11.7mil, an increase of RM9mil compared to 2023," he said in his speech at the Pahang police contingent headquarters' monthly assembly here on Tuesday (Nov 12).

Meanwhile, Yahaya said commercial crime cases, including online fraud, recorded losses totalling RM81mil with 1,877 investigation papers opened compared to the same period in 2023, which recorded a loss of RM58mil while 2,049 investigation papers were opened.

"For white-collar crimes, the Pahang Commercial Crime Investigation Department made 1,449 arrests involving fraud, illegal money-lending and other offences.

"On charge statistics, 1,412 investigation papers were opened including online scams based on reports from the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC), which saw 465 charges," he said.

He advised district police chiefs to improve the quality of service by reducing bureaucracy by increasing speed, transparency and accuracy when carrying out their duties. – Bernama
