Furniture factory in Muar goes up in flames


MUAR: A furniture factory belonging to Hommax Furniture Sdn Bhd at Jalan Parit Jamil near here was gutted in a fire on Monday (Nov 11).

Muar Fire and Rescue station chief Shahrizal Moktar said they received an emergency call regarding the incident at 7pm.

He said 13 firefighters from Muar station were deployed to the scene located about 21km away from the station.

“The fire damaged 50% of the factory building,’’ he said in a statement.

Sharizal who led the operation said they used a 500ft hose with four nozzles spraying water from the station’s three tankers and a fire hydrant at the site.

He said apart from the three tankers, a Fire Rapid Tender vehicle, an Emergency Medical Rescue Service vehicle and two Rapid Intervention Motorcycles were also used in the operation.

The fire was put off at 7.40pm and the operation ended at 8.47pm.

Shahrizal added the cause and the losses suffered are still under investigation.
