JB teacher wins regional award for innovation


A MAN from Johor Baru won the Teacher of the Year award at the Asian Education Awards 2024, Makkal Osai reported.

Theeban Raj Karthigesu of SMK Taman Sutera won in the secondary school category. The award ceremony was held in Bangkok, with educators from 15 Asian countries sharing their teaching methods and innovations.

He was selected as the best teacher for integrating technology into teaching, teaching through robotics, research and innovation, and environmental activism.

Theeban Raj said the award reflected the work of his students and support of his fellow teachers.

Arun Kumar, from Tamil Nadu, said he had always dreamt of setting world records. After being teased by relatives that it would never happen even if he drank water standing upside down, he decided to do just that.

Arun Kumar said he started training by doing handstands, then one-handed handstands and then trying to drink from a cup.

He eventually managed to drink a litre of water in 25.01 seconds, as confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records.
