KUALA LUMPUR: The police have called up the main suspect in the latest alleged bullying case at Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM).
The suspect, a senior cadet, went to the Cheras police headquarters yesterday afternoon.
“We have recorded his statements pertaining to the investigation under Section 325 of the Penal Code.
“We will investigate the matter further,” said Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa.
So far, the police have recorded the statements of 15 people, including the suspect and the 19-year-old victim, he added.
“We advise the public not to speculate on the matter. Let the police investigate the case thoroughly,” he said.
It was reported earlier that another case of alleged bullying leading to injury at UPNM had occurred.
Comm Rusdi said a report was lodged on Nov 8 at 8.40pm.
The report stated that the victim, a first-year student, had been injured on Oct 21 after a roll call at the field there.
“The victim is reported to have suffered from fractured ribs and spine after a third-year student had stepped on him.
“The victim is still being treated for his injuries,” he added.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin had said that the ministry would not tolerate any form of bullying.
“Such incidents should not have happened and have tarnished the image of UPNM and other institutions of higher learning. “We are leaving the matter for the police to investigate, and I and the ministry will give our full cooperation,” he said.
On Nov 8, a cadet from the university claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to causing hurt to his junior.

According to the charge sheet, Amirul Iskandar allegedly voluntarily caused hurt to Muhammad Salman Mohd Saiful Surash, 20, by using a hot steam iron.
He was accused of committing the offence in a dormitory room at the military academy at about 11.45pm on Oct 22.
