Cops bust syndicate lacing juice with drugs

KUALA LUMPUR: A syndicate, which mixed various drugs into juices, was busted with the arrests of three individuals, including a Thai woman.

The syndicate would produce drugged juices containing an array of drugs, including MDMA, Erimin 5 and Ketamine and sold it for the local market, including in night clubs.

The drugged juices would be sold in the form of packet and bottled drinks.

Wangsa Maju OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Lazim Ismail said two local men were detained at a condominium in Jalan Ampang at about 11.50am on Nov 7.

"We seized 1.4kg of ganja, 250g of Ketamine and 58.73g of MDMA powder.

"Further investigation led police to arrest a Thai woman at a condominium in Sungai Besi on the same day. We seized several other drugs there as well," he told a press conference at Wangsa Maju police headquarters on Wednesday (Nov 13).

ACP Mohamad Lazim said a carton of packet drinks (six packets) filled with the drugged juice would be sold for RM1,380 outside but it would be sold for RM1,500 in nightclubs.

"It is also the same for the bottles of drugged juices sold between RM320 and RM380 outside but could reach up to RM480 in nightclubs," he said.

ACP Mohamad Lazim said all the drugs were worth RM115,112 and police also seized RM50,000 cash.

"All suspects also tested positive for drugs and had prior criminal records," he said.

He said police would step up efforts to track down the location where the syndicate processed the drugs.

"The premises raided were only used as temporary storage before the drugs are sold.

"The drugs seized could have been supplied to 3,020 addicts," he said.

ACP Mohamad Lazim urged those with information on any criminal activity, especially drug-related, to contact Wangsa Maju police at 03-9281 0715 or the KL police hotline at 03-2115 9999.
