KUALA LUMPUR: A former senior engineering manager of a manufacturing company has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly making false claims amounting to RM2mil.
Sinar Harian reported that a source said Magistrate Izra Zulaikha Rohanuddin issued a four-day remand for the suspect after the MACC filed the application at the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court on Wednesday (Nov 13).
According to the source, the male suspect, in his 40s, was detained at around 6pm on Tuesday (Nov 12) while having his statement recorded at the MACC headquarters.
"Initial investigations showed that the suspect committed the offence starting from 2019.
"The suspect is believed to have been involved in and colluded to submit and approve false claims from an associate's company for repair work.
"The suspect also misappropriated company funds by providing insider information to the associate's company about bids from other companies," Sinar Harian reported the source as saying on Wednesday (Nov 13).
The suspect is also believed to have deceived the company he worked for by channelling information to third parties, said the source.
The information was related to the requirements for procurement of repair work for production machinery for essential goods, involving a total amount of approximately RM2mil.
MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the arrest and said the investigation is being conducted under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
