One dead in fatal fight among foreign workers, four arrested


MUAR: A Myanmar national was killed in a fight involving a group of foreign workers in their hostel room at a furniture factory in Bakri near here.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the incident happened on Tuesday (Nov 12).

“Bakri police station received a call about the fight at 10.30pm,’’ he said in a statement.

ACP Raiz Mukhliz said the male victim whose age is not confirmed as he had no identification documents, succumbed to his injuries at Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital.

ACP Raiz Mukhliz said police have arrested four suspects, all Myanmar nationals aged between 24 and 35 and remanded them for seven days to assist with the investigation.

“We are looking for other suspects who are on the run and we are still investigating the cause of the fight,’’ he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the death penalty for murder or a minimum of 30 years in prison, but not more than 40 years.
