Witness identifies cop in murder trial

IPOH: A child witness has identified Deputy Supt Mohd Nazri Abdul Razak as the man who crashed his car into 17-year-old Mohammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie’s motorbike last December.

At the High Court here yesterday, the child witness was asked by deputy public prosecutor Afzainizam Abdul Aziz when testifying in the murder trial of the senior police officer accused of killing the teen whether he could identify the person who fatally rammed into Mohammad Zaharif Affendi’s motorcycle.

Afzainizam: If I remove this barrier, can you identify the man who crashed into Zaharif? He is here in this courtroom, behind this barrier.

Child witness: Can.

Afzainizam: Is this the man who crashed into Zaharif?

Witness: Yes, he crashed into Zaharif.

DSP Mohd Nazri is charged with murdering Mohammad Zaharif Affendi at the intersection of Jalan Taman Jati/Jalan Pekeliling Meru Indah, near SMK Jati, between 12.05pm and 12.40pm on Dec 15 last year.

The child witness had also testified on Monday that the car driven by the man had run over the victim’s torso.

The case is being heard in the High Court here before Justice Datuk Bhupindar Singh Gurcharan Singh Preet.

Earlier, when cross-examined by defence lawyer M. Athimulan, the witness said Mohammad Zaharif Affendi’s clothes were ripped up after being run over by the man’s car.

“Zaharif was wearing pink and black sports gear. His clothes were torn up and had (tyre tread marks). He had long black pants on. But I’m not sure if he was wearing shoes or slippers.”

Athimulan asked the witness if he had seen Mohammad Zaharif Affendi riding his motorcycle in the area on other days, to which the child replied, “Sometimes”.

He also asked if the witness had seen the victim revving his motorcycle but the child said he was unsure.

Asked if he had recorded the incident on a mobile phone, the witness said he had not.

The hearing continues today.
