13 foreigners nabbed for working illegally at popular JB nasi lemak spot

JOHOR BARU: A total of 13 Indonesians were detained for working illegally at a popular nasi lemak restaurant in Taman Setia Tropika here.

Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the foreigners were detained during a raid at around 1.20pm on Wednesday (Nov 13).

“The raid was based on public complaints about foreigners working at the restaurant, which went viral on TikTok recently, without proper permits and documentation.

“The 13 foreigners, aged 20 to 32 years old, were detained under the Immigration Act for offences such as overstaying and working without a valid permit,” he said in a statement.

He added that the department also issued the restaurant a notice to assist in investigations.

In a separate raid, Mohd Rusdi said the department detained four other illegal foreigners in Larkin here.

“Those detained included a 22-year-old Pakistani fruit peddler who was selling fruits from table to table at a restaurant.

“We also picked up a man and woman from Myanmar as well as a man from China aged 22 to 40 years old. They were all detained for not having valid documents,” he said.

All the detainees were brought to the Immigration depot in Setia Tropika for investigation.

Mohd Rusdi urged the public to report cases of activities involving illegal foreigners to the department at 07-2233 8400 or email to www.imi.spab.gov.my

“We are serious about combating illegal employment and will be taking actions against employers and individuals who hire foreigners without valid identification documents and working permits,” he added.
