Encorp CEO charged with CBT involving RM1.05mil

SHAH ALAM: Encorp Berhad chief executive officer Hazurin Harun, 54, has been charged in the Sessions Court here on Thursday (Nov 14) with two counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM1.05mil last year.

Hazurin pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out before Judge Mohd Nasir Nordin.

For the first charge, Hazurin was accused of committing CBT by authorising a payment of RM350,000 via an Encorp cheque to LMC Mining Sdn Bhd.

This payment was for the delivery of 20,000 metric tonnes of kaolin mineral from a mining site in Perak, rather than for the silica quartz as intended on June 21, 2023.

The second charge alleged that he transferred RM700,000 online to the same company's bank account.

This transfer covered a shipment from Lumut Port, Perak, to Nantong, China, and the rental of a vessel to transport silica sand from the same mining site, contrary to the intended silica quartz delivery.

Both offenses were said to have occurred at a bank branch in Dataran Sunway, Petaling Jaya.

The charges were framed under Section 409 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of at least two years, caning, and a fine upon conviction.

MACC Deputy Public Prosecutor Muaz Ahmad Khairuddin requested that bail be set at RM50,000 for both charges, alongside conditions that Hazurin report to the MACC office and surrender his passport to the court.

Hazurin's lawyer, Aizul Rohan Anuar, did not oppose the application.

The court granted bail at RM50,000 and imposed the additional conditions, scheduling the next case mention for Jan 7 next year. – Bernama
