Former UTM VC Zulkifli to be named university's pro-chancellor


JOHOR BARU: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM)'s former vice-chancellor Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Mohd Zulkifli Mohd Ghazali will be declared as the university's pro-chancellor during its 68th convocation this weekend.

Current UTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Ahmad Fauzi Ismail said the announcement would be made by Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, who is also the chancellor of UTM, on Saturday (Nov 16).

"Mohd Zulkifli was UTM’s fourth vice-chancellor where he served the university for seven years from 2001 until 2008.

"During his tenure, he led efforts for the university to be known globally by pioneering numerous international collaborations," he said in a press conference about the convocation here.

The convocation, which will be held between Nov 16 and 21, will see the graduation of 7,499 students.

The graduates comprise 4,581 Bachelor’s degree holders, 899 Diploma recipients, 1,352 Master’s degree recipients, 584 Doctor of Philosophy recipients, and 83 Executive Diploma holders.

They include 1,149 international graduates from 56 countries, with the top three being graduates from Indonesia, China, and Bangladesh.
