Immigration nabs 38 undocumented foreigners in Selangor


SHAH ALAM: Thirty-eight undocumented foreigners have been detained by the Immigration Department in multiple raids around Selangor.

The premises raided included a massage parlour, a workers' hostel and a restaurant.

Selangor Immigration Department director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin said the operation was conducted on Tuesday (Nov 12) after two weeks' surveillance.

"We detained 38 undocumented foreigners including 16 women, for various offences.

"Those detained were three Indonesians, Thailand (11), India (eight), Bangladesh (five), Vietnam (five), Myanmar (three), and one each from China, Nepal and Sri Lanka," he said on Thursday (Nov 14) adding that they obtained cooperation from five witnesses to assist the investigation.

"The team had to break down a door to a workers' hostel when its occupants refused to cooperate.

"Some foreign women tried to escape but the team managed to apprehend them.

"Some also hid beneath stairs or beds," he said.

A local man, believed to be an owner of the massage parlour, was also detained.
