Kulai marine cops bust attempt to smuggle RM78,000 worth of subsidised diesel


KULAI: The marine police here arrested two men and busted their attempt to smuggle more than RM78,000 worth of subsidised diesel.

Kulai OCPD Supt Tan Seng Lee said a team of policemen raided a premises in Seelong, Senai, here at around 8pm on Wednesday (Nov 13) based on intelligence obtained.

“The two men, aged 23 and 32 years old, were arrested after failing to produce the necessary documents from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry that were required for the storage of subsidised diesel.

“We also found RM78,880 worth of subsidised diesel stored in 26 units of square tanks, as well as two modified pick-up trucks that were fitted with 700l and 1,000l tanks,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Nov 14).

The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Supply of Control Act 1961 for possessing controlled goods with the intent to commit an offence, which carries a fine of up to RM1mil or up to three years imprisonment, or both upon conviction.

Supt Tan added that the suspects would also be investigated under Section 12 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for the modification of the vehicles.

He also urged those with information about such illegal activities to report to the police by calling the Johor police hotline at 07-221 2999.
