IPOH: The 17-year-old student, allegedly murdered by a senior police officer, was in critical condition after being struck by the officer’s car, the High Court here heard.
A young witness testified that he saw the victim, Mohammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie, writhing in pain and attempting to get up after the impact, but was restrained.
"When I arrived at the scene, I saw Zaharif lying face-up on the road. I could see injuries on his thigh and elbow.
"I tried to help by supporting his back, but we only walked halfway as I was very afraid looking at his critical condition," he said when questioned by Deputy Public Prosecutor Afzainizam Abdul Aziz on the eighth day of the trial Thursday (Nov 14).
He was testifying in the murder trial of Deputy Supt Mohd Nazri Abdul Razak, who is accused of ramming his car into the victim’s motorcycle, leading to the teenager’s death.
DSP Nazri is charged with murdering Zaharif Affendi at the intersection of Jalan Taman Jati and Jalan Pekeliling Meru Indah near SMK Jati between 12.05pm and 12.40pm on Dec 15.
The case is being heard before Justice Datuk Bhupindar Singh Gurcharan Singh Preet.
The defence team was led by M. Athimulan, former Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid and Aiman Hakim Kamaruzzaman.
The third child witness recalled seeing a man wearing a white T-shirt and black three-quarter pants approaching and shouted angrily at him, saying, "What are you looking at? Help me lift him, I’m a police officer.
"I was afraid and shocked when I heard him say that," the witness said.
He also testified that he saw the man, along with members of the public, lift Zaharif and place him at the corner of Jalan Taman Jati 1 before the man returned to his car.
"I can clearly recall where Zaharif was positioned after he was moved to the corner of Jalan Taman Jati 1. I recognise that man as the perpetrator, (pelaku)," he added.
