Indonesian man in hot water for uploading video of Immigration op in Segambut

PETALING JAYA: An Indonesian man who recorded and uploaded a video of an Immigration Department operation has been arrested.

The man in his 30s made the recording of enforcement personnel escorting undocumented migrants onto a transport vehicle during a raid on flats in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur at 12.15am on Friday (Nov 15).

He added a caption to it warning those in breach of Immigration regulations to be on the alert, Sinar Harian reports.

It is learnt a total 51 people were arrested in the operation.

The man was spotted recording the raid and told to stop, but continued to do so.

The daily reported that he was then arrested and taken to the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department office for investigation.

It said some of those who were detained had appealed to the officers not to take action against them, while some stayed in their respective units and refused to open the door.

It quoted Kuala Lumpur Immigration director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff as saying that the detainees, aged three to 45, comprised 40 Bangladeshis, six Indonesians, four Nepalese and one Pakistani.

"Among the offences were being in the country without a valid pass or permit, and overstaying," he said.

He added that most of the adults detained worked as construction workers and shop assistants and were renting the units for RM900 to RM1,000 monthly.
