KUALA LUMPUR: In a bid to earn extra cash, a student of a public higher education institution allegedly turned to selling explicit content of himself engaging in sexual activities on social media platform X.
The student, who began with re-uploading existing pornographic materials to his account in 2021, later switched to recording and uploading stints of himself with female acquaintances, offering the videos for sale at up to RM150 each.
This saw his income exceed RM3,000 monthly while he amassed over 100,000 followers on X.
However, his “trade” soon went bust after being reported to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
According to the MCMC, the suspect was summoned to have his statement taken in connection with the alleged sale of obscene materials.
“Following an inspection at a place in Shah Alam, the MCMC enforcement team seized a mobile phone and SIM card, believed to belong to the suspect and used to upload the content, as part of the investigation.
“The suspect’s female friend, a private higher education institution student, also had her statement taken,” it said in a statement yesterday.
The commission also urged the public to report cases of spreading and selling pornographic content on any social media platform for enforcement to be taken.
