GEORGE TOWN: The state Health Department seizes 70,000 boxes of unregistered traditional products and 70 boxes of unnotified cosmetics worth RM10.1mil during an operation.
State Health director Datuk Dr Fazilah Shaik Allaudin said the health department carried out the joint operation through its state Pharmacy Enforcement Branch in collaboration with the police.
"The special ops was carried out on Nov 4 at two premises in the Jelutong area.
"The purpose of this ops was to take action against the sale of unregistered traditional products and non-notified cosmetics that have been sold online," she said in a statement on Friday (Nov 15).
She said the ops were carried out based on a tip-off by the public.
She then advised consumers to be cautious and not be easily influenced by advertisements or testimonies on websites, social media platforms, and e-commerce applications that make absurd medical claims.
"The public can always check the validity of the product registration and cosmetics notification by visiting the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) website.
"The "Tolak Ubat Tidak Sah" (Reject Unauthorised Medicine) campaign is a new initiative by the Health Ministry's Pharmacy Enforcement Division to combat the issue of illegal supply and sale of medicine in Malaysia," she said.
She then encouraged the public to submit complaints or share information regarding any questionable drugs or cosmetics through https://www.pharmacy.gov.my, the Public Agency Complaint Management System portal (SisPAA) at https://moh.spab.gov.my, any Pharmacy Enforcement Branch nearby or via 03-78413200 so that appropriate action can be taken to combat the sale of illegal products in the market.
