Police probe circulation of fake letters using Deputy PM’s name in Sarawak

PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating a fake letter circulated under the name of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof that was found to have been sent to individuals in Sarawak.

Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, said a report on the case was received at the Precinct 7 Police Station in Putrajaya on Friday (Nov 15).

He mentioned that Fadillah's security officer lodged the report, according to Sinar Harian.

“The case is being investigated by the Commercial Crime Investigation Department under Sections 468 and 471 of the Penal Code,” he said on Saturday (Nov 16).

Previously, it was reported that a police report was lodged after a civil servant informed Fadillah via WhatsApp, having come across two official letters bearing the letterhead of the Prime Minister’s Department at a government agency office in Kuching, Sarawak, on Tuesday (Nov 12).

The letters, which mentioned Fadillah’s name but lacked his signature, offered various positions and approvals for government quarters. They were distributed by individuals impersonating Fadillah’s officers.

Following this, on Thursday, Fadillah issued a statement denying that his office had released any appointment letters for individuals as officers in his office.
