KOTA KINABALU: Sabah's Chief Minister announced plans to establish a special board to improve the implementation of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes in the state by next year.
Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the Education, Technical and Vocational Training Board (MPLTV) would also oversee science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects.
He said the Sabah government has allocated RM33mil this year for courses and training on science skills, technology and innovation.
“However, we still face several challenges, including issues related to infrastructure and training facilities
“We also need more skilled instructors,” said Hajiji on Saturday (Nov 16).
He was speaking during the Chief Minister’s Golden Hand Award and the WorldSkills Malaysia Sabah 2024 competition closing ceremony at the Institute Kemahiran Mara near here.
Hajiji said the challenges of improving TVET in Sabah could be addressed with cooperation and collaboration.
"I am confident that TVET will make Sabah more attractive to foreign investors who require quality labour.
“This competitiveness is crucial to attracting foreign investment in high-tech sectors, contributing to sustainable economic growth," Hajiji said.
