KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 73 motorcycles were seized for extreme illegal modifications following an enforcement operation in the city.
The operation was conducted on Friday (Nov 15) and Saturday (Nov 16).
The Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department (JPJ) said 4,545 vehicles were inspected and 1,353 summonses were issued for various offences throughout the two-day operation.
"Among the offences were illegal motorcycle modifications, including changing the chassis until it disrupted the vehicle's stability and safety.
"Other modifications include using an exhaust pipe that did not follow regulations until it caused very loud noises, using small-size tyres and illegal number plates," it said in a statement.
The department also detected other offences by motorcyclists including riding without a licence, expired road tax and no vehicle insurance coverage.
"All offences were under the Road Transport Act 1987," the KL JPJ said.
The operation was conducted with the cooperation from the police's Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) and the Immigration department.
In the same operation, 19 undocumented foreigners from Indonesia, Bangladesh and India were detained.
"The AADK also conducted urine tests on 141 individuals and detained 16 of them for testing positive for drugs.
"The JSPT issued 134 summonses for various traffic regulations," it said.
