Lorry driver in fatal container accident to be charged tomorrow


BUKIT MERTAJAM: The lorry driver who was involved in a deadly container accident at Jalan Bukit Tengah last Wednesday (Nov 13) will be charged at the Bukit Mertajam Court here on Monday (Nov 18).

Seberang Perai Tengah District police chief ACP Helmi Aris confirmed that the 51-year-old man would be charged tomorrow after his remand ends Sunday (Nov 17).

"The man who was detained after the accident was remanded until today for further investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.

In the incident, a woman died while a man was seriously injured after the car they were driving was hit by a container that fell from a trailer in an accident involving five vehicles on Jalan Bukit Tengah here. – Bernama
