Duo nabbed with RM65,000 worth of ganja in Penang


GEORGE TOWN: Police have seized 21.04kg of ganja and arrested two men believed to be part of a drug trafficking syndicate at two separate places in the island and mainland of Penang.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the suspects, aged 36 and 37, were arrested during an operation by the George Town Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) at about 12.15am on Saturday (Nov 16).

"The two suspects were arrested in George Town and at North Seberang Perai," he said in a statement on Monday (Nov 18).

ACP Abdul Rozak said during the raid police also seized 21.04kg of ganja worth RM65,428 at a house in George Town.

He said investigation found that the syndicate had been active in drug trafficking since October 2024 and the drug was meant for local distribution.

He said that urine tests revealed that both suspects tested positive for drugs, adding that both suspects had 24 prior crime-related offences between them.

The suspects have been remanded for seven days from Nov 16 until Nov 22 to facilitate investigation, added ACP Abdul Rozak.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
