Teachers blaze a trail with digital dictionary

A GROUP of teachers from SJK (T) Tun Sambanthan in Bagan Datuk, Perak, have developed a digital dictionary for pupils, Makkal Osai reported.

Team leader Thanesh Balakrishnan, assisted by Mahaveeraprasad Kuppan and Dandhimathi Sreedhamohan, built the Sol Vayal (Word Farm) English to Tamil dictionary, which contains 56,868 translations so far.The teachers said the dictionary, from the design to the inner workings, was developed entirely by them and reflects the goals of the Education Ministry’s 2027 education plans, such as digital teaching and learning, technology penetration, and digital development.

The developers announced plans to transform the dictionary into an app, continue to update it with new features, and proposed to integrate the app into the 2027 education plan.

Notably, the pioneering teachers also won a gold medal for their “AI-Driven Educational Assistant” project at the Malaysia Innovation Invention And Creativity Association’s (MIICA) Science Stars innovation competition.
