KUALA LUMPUR: Amendments to the Land (Group Settlement Areas) Act 1960 (Act 530) are expected to be tabled in 2027, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
In a written parliamentary reply, the Rural and Regional Development Minister said the timeline to review and amend the Act is estimated at three to four years, according to the steering committee.
"The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda), together with the Felda Regulatory Division under the Prime Minister's Department, has conducted four engagement sessions with stakeholders, involving settlers, the new generation and state authorities.
"To date, a total of 500 participants have taken part in these sessions to provide input for review and improvement of the Act," he said.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, was replying to a question from Jamaludin Yahya (PN-Pasir Salak) about the status of the review of Act 530 to address solutions for building homes for the second-generation Felda settlers and the expected timeframe for resolving this pressing issue.
Ahmad Zahid also said that Felda is also undertaking several administrative measures to standardise and resolve internal issues.
"On solutions for the construction of homes, Felda and the state authorities will continue to collaborate on policies to allocate generational plots systematically," he added.
On Nov 7, Ahmad Zahid said the proposed details for amendments to Act 530 are expected to be finalised next year.
He said this is to address emerging issues and cater to current and future needs by strengthening the Act.
