Cops thwart two attempts to smuggle Thai cosmetics into Malaysia

KOTA BARU: The General Operations Force (GOF) foiled two attempts to smuggle cosmetic products, seizing items valued at over RM60,000 in Pasir Mas on Monday (Nov 18).

GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said that the first seizure occurred when the 7th Battalion, while conducting a patrol under the Kelantan's Ops Taring Wawasan, discovered several boxes near the Jeram Perdah 2 illegal base at around 8.30pm.

"Upon inspection, the boxes were found to contain cosmetic products, specifically the Misaki brand of face cream and soap believed to be from Thailand, which had no valid documents.

"The items are presumed to be for the local market and the total seizure is valued at RM55,000,” he explained in a statement Tuesday (Nov 19).

Meanwhile, at 2.45am, the 9th Battalion seized various cosmetic products without valid documents, also believed to be from Thailand, near the Pohon Jambu illegal base. The total seizure in this case is valued at RM7,100.

"In this incident, the GOF personnel observed several individuals transferring boxes near the illegal base. However, the individuals managed to escape to Thailand by boat,” he said.

The seized items were taken to the Jeram Perdah and Rantau Panjang Komtak, and investigations are being conducted under Section 135 (1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967. – Bernama
