Driver arrested over lethal hit-and-run on Bukit Jalil highway

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have detained a man suspected of involvement in a hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a young girl and wounded her parents on the Bukit Jalil Highway last Friday (Nov 15).

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said on Tuesday (Nov 19) that the 31-year-old driver was arrested at the Kuala Lumpur JSPT.

He detailed that during the incident, which occurred at 9.50pm, the victim and her parents were thrown onto the road following a collision with the suspect's vehicle.

The three victims were rushed to the hospital by passers-by, however, the seven-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.

"The case file will soon be forwarded to the State Prosecution Office to secure instructions for charges under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," ACP Mohd Zamzuri added.

A 28-second clip of the incident, captured by a dashboard camera, has been widely shared on Facebook. The footage shows a luxury car travelling at a high speed before hitting the motorcycle and stopping some distance away from the scene, only to drive off shortly after. – Bernama
